The Fort Langley Community Association (FLCA) is delighted to announce the winner of the new winter banner design (image above), Faith Al-Dayyeni, a Langley artist.  After a competitive process with 13 local artists submitting their work, the submission by Faith Al-Dayyeni was selected by the FLCA to adorn the streets of Fort Langley.

Faith eloquently describes her approach to this design as “My banner is designed to represent the characteristics of our town and winter that everyone can recognize. I wanted our community and nature to be the main themes. I love that neighbours are on the trails all year round and how shadows can be boldly colourful against a snow bank. I love how the bareness of the trees reveals things, like colours streaking across the cold sky or a usually-elusive bird perched visibly on a branch. And I am always taken by the reflections on the river, unfurling the landscape before me two-fold. I represented snow because it invokes a secret child-like whimsy when it replaces the rain for a day. Although our winters are largely precipitation, something about a single snowfall reminds me that time hasn’t halted in the grey. I worked with gouache paint to give the image a painterly texture. I appreciate how our town values hand-made crafts. Artisans have a long history with the fort and keep the spirit of authenticity alive.”

The new banner design will replace the current winter banner in 27 locations in the main commercial areas of Fort Langley and will be displayed from December to the end of February 2025. The banner design was open to any type of art or graphics that convey the spirit of winter and complement our existing year-round banner.

Thank you to the many talented artists that submitted their designs for consideration.
